SZA Elevates Super Bowl Performance with New Deluxe ‘Lana’ Songs: Listen Now
SZA has added to the excitement of her Super Bowl halftime show cameo by releasing an extended version of her SOS deluxe album, titled Lana. Dropped on February 9—just after her performance with Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl—the update includes four fresh tracks, offering fans even more music from the TDE artist.
The updated Lana version of SOS brings in new bonus songs, including the highly anticipated Don Toliver collaboration “Joni”. Alongside this track, SZA also drops “Take You Down,” “PSA,” and a solo version of “Open Arms,” sans Travis Scott. These additions bring the total count of tracks on SOS to a monumental 42 songs—a comprehensive package that now spans across multiple genres and themes, allowing listeners to dive deeper into SZA’s evolving sound.
The timing of this release coincides with her highly praised appearance alongside Kendrick Lamar during his historic Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, where the duo performed their collaborative tracks “Luther” and “All the Stars.” Kendrick also ran through solo hits such as “HUMBLE”, “TV Off”, and his chart-topping diss track “Not Like Us”, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans following the performance.
The Journey Behind the Release of Lana
The Lana update had been long anticipated, with SZA’s manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, teasing fans about the release date after several delays. However, this deluxe version didn’t come without its own share of controversy. In January, SZA expressed frustration over fans criticizing the album rollout on social media. She explained that while she once believed sharing snippets and updates would help build a connection with her audience, it had instead led to entitlement and disrespect.
On X (formerly Twitter), SZA clarified: “I used to think sharing snippets, personal info + music tea would build connection but it actually just made ppl entitled ungrateful and disrespectful. It’s time to restore the boundary.”
In a later post, she fired back at a critic, emphasizing the challenges of album production amid unforeseen delays like sample clearance issues and natural disasters. She made it clear that no further explanations would be given, directing all future questions to Punch.
SZA and Kendrick Lamar: Hitting the Road Together
Following the Super Bowl performance, SZA and Kendrick Lamar are taking their talents on the road. The duo will embark on a North American tour starting on April 19 in Minneapolis, MN, with their final date in Landover, MD on June 18. Cities such as Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Chicago will also host them on their extensive tour.
After wrapping up the North American leg, the two artists will head to Europe for performances beginning July 2, with dates in cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona, and more.
The success of the Super Bowl performance and the release of the Lana deluxe album have catapulted SZA and Kendrick Lamar to even greater heights in the music industry. With a strong lineup of new music and an exciting tour ahead, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next from these two powerhouse artists.
