Opens Up from SZA About Struggles With Anxiety and FOMO on Social Media

SZA has recently shared her struggles with anxiety and FOMO (fear of missing out), offering a glimpse into the internal battles she faces despite her public success. The TDE artist, known for her raw and authentic expression, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reflect on her personal challenges, especially in relation to social media.

Navigating the Pressure of Social Media

SZA began her post with a deep reflection on how society teaches individuals to work hard, desire, and pray for success, but doesn’t provide guidance on how to actually enjoy life. “No one teaches you how to enjoy ur life,” she wrote. “They teach you how to work for it… how do u process all the things you’ve prayed for?”

This introspective question opened the door for her to share her struggles with balancing personal satisfaction and the pressures of social media. She admitted that her constant engagement with social platforms often leads her to feel anxious about sharing her life.

“I get anxious posting ab my life then get fomo watching other ppl post,” she explained, elaborating on how watching others post can intensify her sense of inadequacy. “Then experience way more life so there’s so much more to post and get anxious ab the volume of material,” SZA continued. This cycle of posting, feeling left out, and trying to keep up with others’ seemingly perfect lives can lead to anxiety. She concluded with a feeling of FOMO when watching “awesome posts,” which then spirals back into the cycle of experiencing more “magical life material” she can’t share.

A Teaser for New Music?

In a final post, SZA shared a sexy photo of herself with the intriguing caption: “alright y’all be safe now love you bye ps this will make sense soon.” Fans immediately speculated that this could be a teaser for new music, suggesting the possibility of a forthcoming project that could tie into her emotional revelations.

SZA’s Vulnerability and Personal Growth

SZA has long been known for her candidness about her emotions and experiences, whether in her music or interviews. Earlier this year, she opened up about her difficult high school years, revealing how she struggled with fitting in and being bullied. Despite the hardship, she explained that her awkwardness and refusal to conform were what shaped her into the successful artist she is today.

“I was bullied because I wasn’t quiet and I was awkward at the same time,” she said in an interview with PEOPLE. “I wasn’t this tiny sad victim, but I was more so attacked just because it was giving ‘What is wrong with you?’ energy.”

SZA admitted she never had many friends in high school and even missed prom due to not having a date. Looking back, she sees these experiences as defining moments that pushed her to keep striving for more.

“I didn’t go to prom because I didn’t have any friends and I had no one to go to prom with,” she shared. Despite the lack of validation during her youth, she now reflects on how these experiences have contributed to her drive. “I just had to do more, I had to be more,” she said, adding that if her high school experience had been fulfilling, she might not have felt the need to keep pushing herself.
