NFL Accused of Apologizing to Lil Wayne for Choosing Kendrick Lamar
Sports commentator Skip Bayless claimed that the NFL apologized to Lil Wayne after selecting Kendrick Lamar for the halftime show in New Orleans, despite Lil Wayne’s strong connection to the city.

Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl faced heavy criticism, with some labeling it one of the worst halftime shows in the event’s history. According to Bayless, the NFL sent Lil Wayne an apology letter as early as September, shortly after Lamar was announced as the performer.

Skip Bayless: “The NFL Sent an Apology Letter to Lil Wayne”
Despite Lamar’s grand performance at the Super Bowl, Skip Bayless stated that he refused to watch it out of respect for Lil Wayne and as a way to remind people about the rapper’s boycott of the event.
The NFL’s decision to choose Kendrick Lamar for the halftime show sparked widespread debate, with even Lil Wayne expressing disappointment over not being given the opportunity to perform in his hometown.
In a recent episode of “The Skip Bayless Show,” the 73-year-old sports broadcaster discussed the NFL’s decision and even hinted at a conspiracy involving Jay-Z, who oversees the league’s entertainment division. According to Bayless, Lil Wayne’s close ties to Drake may have played a role in the decision, especially given that Drake has been the target of Lamar’s diss tracks.
Bayless claimed that the NFL immediately sent Lil Wayne an apology letter:
“The NFL sent Wayne an apology letter right away. Not from any specific individual, just from the league, on official NFL letterhead. A letter thanking him for years of supporting the league, not just the Packers, his favorite team, but also for his contributions in promoting the NFL as a whole.”
He added:
“Lil Wayne appears on the pregame show ‘NFL GameDay Morning’ on NFL Network every week. But he will not be performing this Sunday, and he certainly will not be watching a single second of the halftime show. He will watch the game, but absolutely not the halftime performance.”
Lil Wayne: “I Was Not Mentally Prepared for the Disappointment”
Lil Wayne also shared his disappointment about not being given the chance to perform in his hometown of New Orleans.
“I blame myself for not preparing mentally for this disappointment and for automatically putting myself in that position,” he said on Instagram Live. “I thought there was no better place, no better stage, no better moment than that, right in my city. So yes, it hurt, and it hurt a lot.”
Kendrick Lamar Sparks Controversy with “Not Like Us”
While the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar became the center of attention with his performance of “Not Like Us,” which was widely interpreted as a diss track aimed at Drake.
The controversy deepened when Serena Williams, Drake’s ex-girlfriend, was seen enthusiastically dancing to the lyrics, fueling further speculation about the underlying meaning of the performance.
