Lil Wayne Accused of Misusing COVID-19 Relief Funds
Lil Wayne is under fire for allegedly spending most of his $8.9 million COVID-19 relief funds on personal expenses, including private jets, luxury clothing, and even “mysterious women,” according to leaked documents.
COVID-19 Relief Funds Misused on Luxury Items
The grant was initially intended to pay musicians and technicians in his touring crew who faced financial difficulties due to pandemic-related concert cancellations. It was also supposed to cover other “necessary and ordinary” business expenses.
However, Lil Wayne reportedly spent $460,000 on clothing and accessories from high-end brands like Gucci and Balenciaga. Additionally, $5.3 million went toward payments for managers, accountants, and lawyers, including settling a $2.1 million debt with his former manager, Cortez Bryant.
Questionable Spending at Coachella
A $88,000 invoice for a New Year’s Eve 2021 performance at Coachella was charged to taxpayers. Yet, Instagram posts show Lil Wayne partying on Sunset Boulevard that night instead of performing. He also allegedly spent $15,000 on flights and hotel rooms for “women with unclear ties” to his tour operations, including an adult film actress.
Chris Brown Accused of Similar Misconduct
Lil Wayne isn’t the only artist accused of misusing taxpayer money. Hip-hop star Chris Brown received $10 million in relief funds and allegedly transferred $5.1 million directly into his personal bank account.
Extravagant Spending on a Birthday Party
Chris Brown also billed taxpayers $80,000 for his 33rd birthday party in Los Angeles. Expenses included hookahs, “nitrogen ice cream,” and repairs for sofas damaged by burn holes.
Public Outrage Over Misused Relief Funds
Both artists have sparked public outrage for their alleged misuse of relief funds, which were meant to support those affected by the pandemic.
