LiAngelo Ball and “Tweaker (Remix)”: A Surprise from Lil Wayne and His Journey into Music

LiAngelo Ball seems to have overlooked some key details regarding the remix of his hit “Tweaker”, particularly the new verses from Lil Wayne. The track, reminiscent of Cash Money Records’ golden era, has taken on a life of its own, becoming a viral meme on social media and blasting through professional locker rooms across the country.

Big names like Boosie Badazz and Moneybagg Yo have expressed interest in jumping on this melodic Southern banger, further amplifying its Dirty South appeal. In an interview for REVOLT’s “Studio Sessions”, veteran rapper Juvenile even hinted at a potential “Tweaker” collaboration with GELO in the future.

A Major Opportunity with Lil Wayne

Before the updated track officially dropped on Friday (February 7), GELO, who is set to perform at NBA All-Star Weekend later this month, told Billboard that working with Lil Wayne felt like “going one-on-one with Jordan.”

He also revealed that he didn’t provide any input on the legendary New Orleans rapper’s fiery verse during the recording process.

“I hit him up on [Instagram] and said, ‘Your verse is insane. This is exactly what we’ve been missing in our music!’” GELO recalled. “Wayne is incredible. He told me, ‘I hope you kill your verse.’ But yeah—his verse is fire.”

Lil Wayne Had to Rewrite His Verse?

After “Tweaker (Remix)” dropped, Lil Wayne appeared on Tyga’s Twitch stream to support the former Young Money artist’s new album, “NSFW”. While discussing his contribution to the hard-hitting track “Pop It Off”, Wayne also reflected on his experience working with GELO—and revealed an unexpected twist!

“Shoutout to GELO. Y’all need to know that I had to [rewrite] my verse,” Wayne jokingly recalled about 45 minutes into the livestream. “GELO is strict, by the way. These new kids, man! Usually, I send someone a verse, and by God’s grace, they love it. But this guy called me like, ‘Hey man, can you change this part?’”

Wayne laughed as he shared the story, admitting that he agreed with GELO’s minor critique. However, in true Wayne fashion, he also admitted that he had no idea about GELO’s official release or its success until he was contacted later.

What’s Next for GELO?

Before “Tweaker (Remix)” hit streaming platforms, Lil Wayne starred in a lighthearted Cetaphil commercial, which referenced his exclusion from the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. The 90-second ad also revealed the release date of his upcoming album, “Tha Carter VI”, set to drop in June.

A co-sign from Lil Wayne is sure to breathe new life into this buzzing track as the weather heats up. Whether GELO, who has promised another follow-up single and a full-length album, can strike gold twice remains to be seen.
