Kate Cassidy Reveals Why She Left Argentina Before Liam Payne’s Tragic Death

Nearly four months after the shocking death of One Direction star Liam Payne, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy has opened up about the heartbreaking reason she left their Argentina vacation early.

Kate Cassidy Speaks Out About the Tragic Loss

In a recent interview with The Sun, published on Feb. 5, Kate Cassidy revealed that she left Argentina just two days before Liam’s fatal accident to take care of their beloved dog, Nala.

“I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility,” the 25-year-old TikTok star explained. “We had our dog and obviously, I never, ever thought this event would occur.”

Expressing deep regret over her decision to leave, Kate admitted that if she had any way of knowing what was about to happen, she would have never left Argentina.

“Obviously, if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”

Since Liam’s passing, Kate has been struggling to cope with the immense grief, admitting that her life has changed drastically.

“I think about Liam every second of every day,” she shared. “It still doesn’t feel fully real for me that he’s not here. I’m trying to be the best I can be, but I feel like my life has changed so much.”

How Kate Learned About Liam’s Passing

While Liam’s sudden death sent shockwaves through the music industry and One Direction fans worldwide, Kate considers herself fortunate that she didn’t find out through social media.

She recalled being at their home with their dog, casually scrolling through TikTok, when one of Liam’s friends called her with the devastating news.

“I just couldn’t even imagine that,” she said, referring to how Liam’s older sister Nicola learned about his death through a news notification.

The moment she was told that Liam had fallen from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kate said her mind went completely blank.

Legal Developments Following Liam Payne’s Death

In the aftermath of Liam’s tragic accident, four people have been charged with negligent homicide, and another individual has been accused of supplying cocaine to the singer.

  • Those charged with negligent homicide could face one to five years in prison.
  • The individual accused of supplying cocaine may receive four to 15 years in prison.

At this time, it is unclear if the five defendants have retained legal representation, and they have not yet commented on the case.

Liam’s Final Days in Argentina

Kate and Liam had originally traveled to Argentina to support his former bandmate, Niall Horan, during a stop on his tour for The Show album.

After attending the concert, the couple stayed in Buenos Aires for a few extra days. Kate eventually left on Oct. 14, just 48 hours before Liam’s untimely death.

Niall, heartbroken over the loss of his longtime friend, reflected on their final moments together in an Oct. 18 Instagram post.

“I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently,” Niall wrote. “I sadly didn’t know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It’s heartbreaking.”
