Critics are skeptical that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez will enjoy a happily-ever-after marriage, despite traditional vows promising “till death do us part.”

The Amazon co-founder, 60, got engaged to the former Los Angeles reporter, 54, in 2023, after beginning their relationship in 2018. While the couple has remained tight-lipped about their wedding date, reports suggest a winter wedding could be in the works.
In a recent appearance on Today, Sánchez teased wedding preparations, saying, “I’m diving into it right now,” and admitted she’s already thinking about the dress she’ll wear. With excitement, she declared, “Life is just beginning,” but refrained from revealing more details about the big day.
Bezos’ Past Relationship and Divorce
Bezos was previously married to MacKenzie Scott for 25 years, and the couple shares four children: three sons and a daughter. Their marriage ended in 2019 after Bezos’ affair with Sánchez became public. The divorce settlement included a $38 billion payout, making Scott one of the world’s wealthiest women.
Scott remains a prominent figure due to her significant 4% stake in Amazon, a fortune she helped Bezos build. Since their divorce, she has remarried and later divorced Seattle teacher Dan Jewett.
Skepticism Surrounding Sánchez
Despite the couple’s engagement, online critics have speculated about Sánchez’s intentions. Some suggest her relationship with Bezos may be less about love and more about ambition.
One commenter on the Daily Mail wrote, “This woman has planned every step of her life, from having a child with a football player to snagging a successful agent and finally landing Jeff Bezos. It’s all calculated, and I doubt she has a genuine feeling in her body.”
Sánchez, a mother of three, shares a son with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez and has two children with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell, a high-profile talent agent. Ironically, Whitesell is credited with introducing Sánchez to Bezos—albeit unintentionally.

An insider told People last year that Sánchez views Bezos as the man she wants to spend her life with, adding, “He has all the money in the world, but what he was missing was someone to share it with.”
However, skeptics believe Bezos’ fascination with Sanchez may fade. One critic remarked, “Even if he marries her, he’ll want something different. He likes the attention she brings, but that will get old fast.”
