Toronto rapper Top5, a close associate of Drake, has been arrested and charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, according to a recent press release from the Toronto Police Service. The rapper, whose real name is Hassan Ali, was taken into custody on Friday, January 24, and is now facing six separate charges related to illegal weapon possession.
Details of Top5’s Arrest
The 25-year-old rapper is accused of several offenses, including:
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, or Prohibited Device
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Weapon
Top5’s initial court appearance was scheduled for Saturday, January 25, at 10 A.M., though no further details have been provided about the proceedings.
Drake’s Ties to Top5 Amid Legal Troubles
Despite his legal issues, Drake has continued to support Top5 publicly. Earlier this month, the two were spotted together at a Toronto Raptors game, fueling speculation about their ongoing friendship. The rapper posted a video on Instagram showing himself and the OVO Sound boss walking to their seats during the Raptors’ victory over the Golden State Warriors on January 13. He captioned the post: “Me & twin @champagnepapi.”
However, not everyone is on board with their association. Industry figure Wack 100 recently issued a stern warning to Drake, advising him to distance himself from Top5. Speaking in an interview with No Jumper, Wack 100 revealed that he possesses potentially damaging evidence against the rapper and urged Drake to “get away” from him.
Wack 100’s Warning to Drake
During the interview, Wack 100 held up a USB drive, claiming it contained damaging information about Top5. He expressed his concern for Drake, stating:
“Drake needs to get away from Top5. He’s bad news… This has been in existence for about 90 days, and I have made sure it hasn’t gone anywhere. That dude is reckless with his mouth and ties you to things that don’t support your career.”
Wack 100 further warned that staying close to Top5 could lead to Drake being “hemmed up, caught up, and cuffed up.”
Top5’s Previous Legal Battles
Top5 has had a history of legal trouble, including a previous first-degree murder charge, which he managed to beat last year. The charge stemmed from the shooting death of Hashim Omar Hashi, a 20-year-old college student, who police believe may have been wrongly targeted in a gang-related incident.
Following the case’s dismissal, it was revealed that Drake contributed financially to Top5’s legal defense. The rapper took to Instagram to thank him, posting:
“Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the lawyer fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto #ALLAHUAKBAR.”
However, he later edited the caption, removing any mention of Drake.
What’s Next for Top5?
With his recent arrest and mounting legal troubles, it remains uncertain what the future holds for Top5’s music career. As fans and critics watch closely, one question lingers—will Drake continue to stand by his longtime associate, or will he heed the warnings to sever ties?
