Demi Moore Opens Up About Bruce Willis’ Battle with Dementia

Demi Moore has shared her heartfelt thoughts about her ex-husband, Bruce Willis, as he continues his fight against frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

The Substance star, 62, and the Moonlighting actor, 69, were married from 1989 to 2000 and share three daughters: Rumer (36), Scout (33), and Tallulah (31). Despite their divorce, Moore remains deeply involved in Willis’ life and support system.

“We will always be a family, just in a different form,” Moore told. “For me, there was never a question. I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love.”

A Strong Support System

Willis also has two younger daughters, Mabel (12) and Evelyn (10), with his wife Emma Heming, 46. Moore continues to visit Bruce regularly and supports Emma and their daughters through this difficult journey.

Speaking about the enduring friendship she shares with her ex-husband, Moore stated, “I hope this encourages others to see that there’s another way to do things. There is life after divorce. There is a way to co-parent with love.”

Moore echoed a similar sentiment during an interview in December:

“It was important to me that even though Bruce and I split and divorced, we recognized that we are still a family, and we will always be a family—just in a different shape. And that shape can evolve and change, but there’s a way for all of us to exist within it.”

Bruce’s Health Update

During her interview, Moore also provided an update on Willis’ health:

“With the condition that he has, he is in a very stable place right now.”

She added, “I’ve said this before, and I truly mean it: It’s important for anyone facing this to truly understand where they are. And from that place, love and joy can emerge.”

The Willis family first announced Bruce’s FTD diagnosis in February 2023 after he stepped away from acting due to aphasia, a brain disorder affecting speech and comprehension. Since then, his family has shown unwavering love and support.

Emma Heming’s Perspective

Last month, Emma Heming opened up about their journey, emphasizing that she does not “shield” her daughters from the reality of Bruce’s condition.

In an interview with Town & Country, Heming stated, “This disease is misdiagnosed, overlooked, misunderstood. So ultimately, getting a diagnosis was key for me to understand what frontotemporal dementia is and how I can educate my children.”

She added, “I’ve never tried to sugarcoat anything for them. They’ve grown up watching Bruce’s decline over the years. I don’t try to shield them from that.”

Demi Moore’s Career Milestone

While supporting Bruce and their family, Moore is also celebrating a major career achievement. She recently received her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in The Substance.

Reflecting on the role, Moore said, “I realized that I wouldn’t benefit from other actors in many of these scenes.”

At 62, she acknowledges the industry’s tendency to sideline older women. “We’ve all heard the story—women of a certain age in Hollywood get discarded, forgotten,” she said.

“But look at what’s happening now. There is interest in our stories. There is room for us. And that is exciting.”

Before The Substance, Moore admitted she had doubts about her future in acting: “I hit a low point where I felt I wasn’t growing, nor was I being challenged.”

“I thought, maybe the universe is telling me I need to do something else. But then The Substance came along, and I thought, ‘Okay, this is something I can dive into. This is something I can put my heart into.’”

If Moore wins the Best Actress Oscar, she will become only the third leading actress directed by a female filmmaker to receive this honor. She would also be the sixth oldest woman to win in the 97-year history of the Academy Awards.

From standing by Bruce Willis in his health battle to making Hollywood history, Demi Moore continues to prove that love, resilience, and reinvention know no age or limits.
