Jolie elaborated:
“There’s a lot to focus on in building a career, but if you love the stage, you can read scripts at home in your pajamas. You don’t always need a specific job. Find a way to live like an artist, surround yourself with artists, but also live a truly fulfilling life. Sometimes, this job isn’t the healthiest choice.”

She also admitted:
Hollywood isn’t the easiest place, and it’s not a place where you can give your all if you’re striving for a truly fulfilling life.”

Transforming Into Maria Callas

During the festival, Jolie was honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award and shared her experience of transforming into Maria Callas, the legendary opera singer, for the biographical film directed by Pablo Larraín.

She revealed:
“I had never sung before. Once, someone told me I couldn’t sing, and that really discouraged me. I blocked that part of my life.”

When offered the role by Pablo Larraín, Jolie admitted:
“When he asked if I could sing, I lied. He also asked, ‘Can you ride a horse?’ I said yes. But, of course, no one can sing like Maria Callas. No one. But I will try my best.”

This role has earned Jolie critical acclaim and nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards and the upcoming Critics’ Choice Awards.

On Close Relationships

When asked who she would call for advice or as a close friend in the early hours of the morning, Jolie shared:
“I don’t really have those kinds of relationships. Maybe it’s because I lost my parents young or because of the betrayals I’ve faced.”

She continued:
“I don’t have many close relationships, but the few I have are enough. My mother, [the late Marcheline Bertrand], was very close to me, but I lost her. I’ve had a few friends over the years, but they weren’t there when my family needed them the most.”

Jolie concluded:
“I have a few people I truly trust. Who did Maria Callas die with? Just two trusted individuals.”
