ToggleAndy Murray and His Cute Little Djokovic
Novak Djokovic has praised coach Andy Murray for bringing a “new look” to his game ahead of the 2025 season.
After facing Murray 36 times at ATP events and winning 25 of those encounters, the 24-time Grand Slam champion selected the Scotland native as his coach in November, with their partnership set to last until the conclusion of the Australian Open, after which they will reassess.
Unique Perspective from Murray
“He brings a unique perspective on my game as one of the greatest rivals I’ve ever had. He knows my strengths and weaknesses,” the Serbian player said to ATP. “He has also played recently on Tour, so he is aware of the best players in the world, the younger generation, and their strengths and weaknesses. I’m really looking forward to that.”
A Fresh Perspective on Djokovic’s Game
“I think he is bringing a fresh perspective to my game, and I believe I will benefit from it, no doubt, on the tennis court. But with his champion mindset, I’m confident we will work well together.”
Strange but Exciting Partnership
Djokovic admitted that it felt strange at first to share insights about his on-court feelings with an opponent who recently retired in August.
“In a way, it’s strange to share all these insights about how I feel on the court, share some secrets about what I’m going through, what I’m thinking, how I see my game with someone who’s always been one of the top rivals,” he said. “But the 10 days we spent together were amazing. I enjoyed every moment. He’s very meticulous, very dedicated, very professional,” he continued. “That doesn’t surprise me because I’ve known him for many years as a player, and clearly, this is a new experience for him as a coach. He and I were both surprised when we were paired as a coach and player.”
Anticipating a Strong Start to 2025 Season
Djokovic also acknowledged that this season has brought more ups and downs than previous years, and he is eagerly anticipating a strong start to the next season.
“I’m planning to play a bit more this year than I did last season,” he said. “I hope my level will improve, and from there, I can hope to win a few tournaments and raise my ranking.”
