Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance may have featured Samuel L. Jackson, but it still left many fans feeling underwhelmed. Many expressed their belief that the show should have included Lil Wayne, a true New Orleans native, to deliver a more electrifying performance.

Fans Express Their Frustration

Social media quickly erupted with complaints about Lil Wayne’s absence, with many arguing that he deserved a spot on the stage more than Lamar.

  • One fan wrote: “This is Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance, and y’all overlooked Lil Wayne? Lmaooo, alright then.”
  • Another commented: “Kendrick Lamar was boring. Wack Halftime Show. He’s the Tim Duncan of Hip-Hop (and that’s a compliment). New Orleans had a chance to shine with a full-blown Mardi Gras-themed event featuring Lil Wayne and Cash Money, but they missed it.”
  • One user even questioned: “So Jay-Z really took Lil Wayne’s halftime show in his own city… for that? LOL.”

“Y’all already know I won’t be there this week. Shoutout to New Orleans, but I’ve been working on something special. I’ve got a surprise for y’all,” Lil Wayne said.

That “surprise” turned out to be a Cetaphil commercial, where he poked fun at his reaction to the Super Bowl snub.

“Sometimes, we all feel a little Lil Sensitive… and hey, who hasn’t? Right, @Cetaphil? Because if you can’t handle your feelings, at least you can take care of your sensitive skin,” the rapper joked.

Kendrick Lamar Responds

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar defended his performance, emphasizing the storytelling aspect of his music.

“I’ve always been passionate about telling stories through my music and bringing that to every stage I step on,” Lamar stated in a pre-Super Bowl press conference. “I want people to not only listen but also watch and think about what I bring to the table.”

He also pushed back against claims that rap has lost its authenticity:

“I think a lot of people have dismissed rap. They don’t see the grit and determination anymore. But I believe in the competitive nature of hip-hop—it has always been a battleground of artistry. I still follow battle rap because that’s always been at the core of who I am.”

Despite the performance’s controversy, this year’s Super Bowl certainly made waves. However, with Lil Wayne left out of the show, many fans still feel that a golden opportunity was missed.
