Wu-Tang Clan Announces Long-Awaited Reunion Album ‘Black Samson’

The legendary Wu-Tang Clan is set to make a triumphant return with their first new album in nearly a decade. Titled Black Samson, The Bastard Swordsman: From the Wu-Tang, the Saga Continues Collection, the project is slated for release on Record Store Day (April 12, 2025) and will feature contributions from all living members of the iconic rap group.

A Return to Classic Wu-Tang Vibes

The 12-track LP is entirely produced by Mathematics, the mastermind behind 2017’s The Saga Continues. Notably, the album will not feature any beats from RZA, marking a distinct production approach. In an interview with Variety, Mathematics shared the inspiration behind the album’s unique title: “Well, the album has a certain feel to it. It’s an homage to Blaxploitation movies. You have films like Black Samson, Black Caesar, and Super Fly. Those are the kind of movies I was raised on in the 1970s.”

He further explained the influence of classic martial arts films, stating: “The Bastard Swordsman part of the title is a nod to the old-school karate flicks that we all grew up on. With me and the rest of Wu-Tang, that was something we had in common. Bastard Swordsman is one of my favorites.”

The Making of ‘Black Samson’

Putting the album together took time due to the group’s busy tour schedule and residencies, but Mathematics emphasized that the bond among Wu-Tang members made the process seamless: “It’s my brothers. When I need them, I call them. All praises due, they show up. I’m grateful for that.”

Even Method Man praised the album’s production, stating: “Mathematics adds another chamber to the Saga Continues collection. I’m proud of him. Following his last solid outing, this one looks to be another banger for the history books!”
