Too Short Urges Kendrick Lamar to Skip ‘Not Like Us’ During Super Bowl Halftime Show
A West Coast legend is speaking out about another West Coast icon.
The anticipation surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance has been one of the hottest topics in recent months. Fans have been eagerly waiting to see how he will handle the legal controversy surrounding his hit diss track ‘Not Like Us’ on the world’s biggest stage.
Lamar has already confirmed that the song will be part of his set, but now another West Coast rap legend, Too Short, has voiced his disapproval of the decision. Too Short explained why he thinks Lamar should steer clear of the song during such a high-profile performance.

Too Short’s Advice: ‘I Wouldn’t Do It’
“If I were him, I wouldn’t do it,” Too Short stated bluntly. The rapper elaborated that leaving the Drake diss track out of the performance would be a much bigger statement than including it.
“It would be more of a flex not to do it,” he added. “[Lamar] just did the Grammys, man. I wouldn’t do it.”
Too Short’s perspective raises an interesting point. By omitting ‘Not Like Us,’ Lamar would shift the focus away from his ongoing feud with Drake and allow the spotlight to remain on his artistry and his collaboration with SZA, which is expected to be a major highlight of the Halftime Show. However, the song recently won five Grammys and stands as one of the biggest hits of Lamar’s career, making it an obvious crowd favorite.
UMG and NFL’s Legal Concerns
Too Short’s concerns also align with the ongoing legal battle between Drake and Universal Music Group (UMG).
The Toronto superstar has taken legal action against UMG for defamation, citing the child-related allegations made in ‘Not Like Us’ as a core issue. This lawsuit has reportedly prompted both UMG and the NFL to discuss whether some lyrics in the song should be censored during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The final decision remains unclear, but Lamar appears determined to perform the track in some capacity, regardless of the legal implications.

Too Short Faces His Own Tragedy
While Too Short has been vocal about Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance, he is also dealing with a personal tragedy of his own.
His brother, Wayne Shaw, was tragically shot and killed on January 29.
Too Short has yet to release an official statement regarding his brother’s passing, but he has been sharing emotional posts on Instagram. In one post, he expressed his inability to respond to messages from friends and family.
“I’m not really responding to messages or picking up calls right now,” he wrote. “I just can’t.”
He also posted a video of himself listening to Ohio Players, captioning it simply: “Tears for real.”

Will Kendrick Go Against the Advice?
Despite Too Short’s recommendation to leave ‘Not Like Us’ off the setlist, all signs point to Lamar performing the song in some form.
With the legal situation still unfolding and the NFL keeping a close eye on the content, it remains to be seen how Lamar will navigate the controversy. However, one thing is certain—this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show is set to be one of the most talked-about performances in recent history.
