In a recent interview with Timbaland for Rolling Stone on October 18, producer extraordinaire Metro Boomin opened up about a particularly challenging aspect of his collaboration with Atlanta rapper 21 Savage.

When asked by Timbaland how often he requests artists to re-record their vocals, Metro candidly responded:
“As I’ve gotten older, it happens more and more. With 21 Savage, it’s no exception. He’s the most particular artist I’ve ever worked with when it comes to beats. I’ll play him 35 to 40 beats before he picks one he likes. He’s constantly like, ‘Next, next, next.’ It can be exhausting, but I always push back, saying, ‘Alright, but you’ve got to go crazy on this one. I’m not accepting anything mediocre.’”

Timbaland agreed, praising the duo’s collaborative output:
“You guys together create some incredible music.”

Metro added:
“He’s definitely my favorite artist to work with. We drive each other crazy, going back and forth all the time. But at the end of the day, we make each other better. If I play him 20 beats he doesn’t feel, I’ll go back home and cook up more. That’s essential in this process.”

The Possibility of Savage Mode III

Despite occasional creative tensions, Metro Boomin hasn’t ruled out the possibility of releasing a third installment of the Savage Mode series. In June, Metro teased a new track on social media, sparking fan speculation about Savage Mode III.

While Metro neither confirmed nor denied the project, his cryptic response with a 👀 emoji only fueled excitement for a potential reunion with 21 Savage.

The Journey of Savage Mode

The first Savage Mode debuted in 2016, featuring nine tracks with production by Metro Boomin, Southside, Sonny Digital, Zaytoven, and Cubeatz. Four years later, the duo released Savage Mode II, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The project featured guest appearances from Young Thug, Young Nudy, and Drake.

However, if Savage Mode III materializes, fans may not see Drake participate due to a recent fallout with Metro. This leaves fans eager to see what direction the next installment might take.
