YSL Mondo Apologizes for Calling Gunna “A Rat” but Questions of Loyalty to Young Thug Linger
Young Thug’s loyalty put under scrutiny as Gunna’s lawyer shuts down snitching rumors.
In a candid interview with VladTV, YSL Mondo opened up about his regret over labeling fellow rapper Gunna as “a rat.” Mondo’s comments sparked a heated debate within the hip-hop community, particularly because of the allegations’ implications for Young Thug, the iconic YSL figurehead currently facing serious legal battles. Despite his apology, Mondo stood firm on one belief: “There’s no justification for being a rat.”
However, he admitted he may have misdirected his anger. Mondo pointed to YSL Woody, calling him “a certified rat who spilled the truth,” and acknowledged that his energy should have been aimed at Woody instead of Gunna.
Gunna and Young Thug: A Complex Loyalty
Mondo’s initial accusations suggested that Gunna had turned his back on Young Thug, who remains at the center of the ongoing YSL RICO case. The insinuations painted Gunna as someone who had folded under pressure to save himself. Despite this, Mondo now admits that he acted rashly. He revealed that he had reached out to Gunna privately, hoping to address their differences “man to man,” but the damage had already been done. Gunna reportedly told Mondo that he would “never forgive” him for the accusations and would always remember being labeled “a rat.”
Mondo reflected on his actions, saying, “I shouldn’t have spoken on Gunna’s situation because, technically, he didn’t betray anyone. He just folded under pressure. He should’ve stayed loyal to Young Thug until the end. But those who know the truth know he didn’t actually do anything wrong.”
Young Thug’s Legacy Under Fire
The case against Young Thug has brought the loyalty of YSL members into sharp focus. Mondo emphasized his frustration with the situation, particularly with how some individuals celebrated a “real rat” roaming free while Young Thug, someone he referred to as “a brother,” continues to endure hardship. Mondo’s comments reflect the tension within YSL as the group navigates legal challenges and public scrutiny.
“I was angry and hurt,” Mondo admitted. “Young Thug has done so much for so many people, and seeing him go through this while someone else walks free—it’s painful.”
Gunna’s Lawyer Speaks Out
Amid the controversy, Gunna’s attorney, Steve Sadow, issued a statement to dispel rumors about Gunna’s alleged cooperation against Young Thug. Sadow took to X/Twitter to set the record straight:
“I represent Gunna, but this is not on his behalf—it’s to clarify the facts. ƒ did NOT cooperate, did NOT do anything, and did NOT say anything to harm Young Thug’s case.”
Sadow continued:
“Gunna spent eight months in jail before being released in December 2022 after entering an Alford plea. His plea cannot and will not be used in Young Thug’s trial. Gunna was never named as a witness, and his probation terms carry no testimony obligations.”
Young Thug’s Fight for Justice
As Young Thug continues to battle serious charges, the divisions within YSL highlight the intense pressures that come with loyalty, fame, and the justice system. While Mondo’s apology signals an attempt to heal wounds, it’s clear that Gunna’s departure from the conflict hasn’t resolved the lingering tensions.
Fans and observers alike are left to wonder: How will these strained relationships impact the future of YSL and Young Thug’s legacy? One thing remains certain—loyalty in the world of hip-hop is never black and white.
