Sean Diddy Combs Denied Bail as Judge Declares Hip-Hop Mogul a Serious Danger
A federal judge in New York has denied Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for bail, ruling that the hip-hop mogul poses a significant threat to public safety. Judge Arun Subramanian determined, based on “clear and convincing evidence,” that no condition or combination of conditions could reasonably ensure the safety of the community.
Judge’s Ruling on Combs’ Danger to the Public
In his decision, Judge Subramanian referenced compelling evidence of Combs’ propensity for violence, citing a video from a 2016 incident at the Intercontinental Hotel involving Combs and his protégé, Cassie Ventura. Despite defense claims that the footage was altered, the judge found clear evidence of violence, even in the version submitted by Combs’ legal team.
This marks the fourth time Combs has been denied bail, with the judge finding that his release would pose a significant risk.
Prosecutors’ Arguments Against Bail
Federal prosecutors argued that Combs’ actions, including attempts to influence witnesses while incarcerated and efforts to sway the jury pool through social media campaigns involving his children, amounted to obstruction of justice. The prosecution expressed concerns about the mogul’s conduct and the potential for further interference in the criminal case.
Defense’s Position on Free Speech
In response, Combs’ defense team asserted that their client’s actions, including the social media campaign, were an exercise of free speech, aimed at countering what they called “outrageous claims” made by government officials, plaintiffs’ attorneys, and others they considered to have questionable motives.
Text Messages Highlight Violence
The judge also cited text messages between Combs and Ventura, exchanged shortly after the 2016 altercation, where Ventura revealed injuries such as a black eye and fat lip. The texts also referenced bruising that continued for days after the incident, further reinforcing the severity of the allegations.
